Then why not have a think about serving with us in this post? We are a small but fast-growing non-government organisation (NGO) with a heart for detainees, and we need a new team member to help us reach the French-speaking world.

Whilst it would be nice if a professional translator was available to work for us, this appointment could in fact suit a Christian student or another person with a few hours to spare each week. What would we require of you, and what could you expect of us?

Base

  • This duties may be performed from home, so you will be based at your usual residence.

Duties

  • Depending on our fluctuating needs and your particular experience & skill mix, your duties may include:-

    • translating written resources (eg patient information leaflets and web articles for professionals) into French;

    • producing French sub-titles for English language videos (eg teaching videos);

    • interpreting at French-language online teaching events.

  • You will be taught any necessary new skills and you will not be permitted to serve beyond your competence.

Hours

  • You will provide part-time service, fitted around your availability.

  • If your skill mix facilitates you providing interpretation for teaching events, you will need to be available for occasional evening and weekend working.

  • You will receive annual leave in accordance with the employment laws of the country in which you reside for employment purposes.

Line management

  • You will be line managed by our Chief Operating Officer (COO) or, in his/her absence, our Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

  • Your line management will be supportive in nature and will include regular performance reviews to enhance your performance and professional growth.

Remuneration & Travel

  • You will receive the national minimum wage of the country in which you reside for employment purposes.

  • Travel expenses and other working expenses will be reimbursable.

Experience, Knowledge, Qualifications & Skills

  • Essential

    • accurate typist when aided by spell checker

    • accurate performance in our English-French translation assessment (1)

    • competency in using Excel, PowerPoint & Word

    • fluent in oral & written English (IELTS 7.5)

    • fluent in oral & written French (CEFR C2)

    • GCSE English C+ (2)

    • GCSE French A+ (2)

    • teamworking

    • time management

  • Desirable

    • basic knowledge of healthcare issues and terminology

    • basic knowledge of Squarespace website software

    • completely fluent English (IELTS 9)

    • English-French interpretation experience

    • English-French interpretation qualification

    • English-French translation experience

    • familiarity with both European and African French

    • native French tongue

    • university graduate
