Opinion of the week

Head in bucket

Back during the pandemic one of our fellows attended a panel discussion hosted by the Liberty Choir. Titled ‘Prison isn’t working’, the discussion drew on people’s lived experiences of the UK criminal justice system.

One panellist shared the funniest and darkest moments of his prison days. He described an incident when a fellow prisoner ran through the prison stark naked - except for the bucket on his head. That’s a classic prison tragicomedy!

Our ambulance has died!

Ancient & exhausted

Happier days: Mam Jhen driving our old van, taking Mams Lora (behind) and Angelica (front) to a local police station to do welfare checks and deliver freshly-cooked food.

One of our most precious Philippine assets was our faithful old van.

Every day it got pushed to its limit. It took food to hungry police detainees. It got our staff & equipment to prisons & police stations to perform mobile medical clinics. And it ferried our patients to where we needed them to go.

It was very old when we acquired it. It was costly to repair again and again. And then finally it got too sick to resuscitate.

So now our outputs slow and our public transport costs go through the roof. We desperately need to replace it.

Grateful

GoFundMe QR code

Our local staff, and the thousands of patients we serve, will be so very grateful for every pound, dollar, euro and peso donated towards keeping us on the move.

You can of course donate via the GoFundMe platform. But a more cost effective option for us is to receive bank transfers direct into our UK or Philippine bank accounts with gifts marked 'van'. You might also wish to drop us an email with your contact details, so we can thank you and update you later.

Thanks so much for considering helping us! And please do contact us if you have a question about this fundraiser or if you’d like to offer to help with our fundraising efforts.
