Holistic care

What is it?

Whenever it is safe to do so, we ask our patients about their spiritual beliefs. This is because we know that patients are more than physical bodies. Humans are mind, body and soul. It’s important to consider all aspects of a person when treating them. This is known as practising holistic care - also known as integrated care or whole person care.

Why do it?

But what actually does it involve, how do we do it sensitively without imposing our own Christian beliefs, did you know that professional regulators support it, and how does it intersect with a healthcare professional expressing their own beliefs…?

It goes hand-in-glove with integrated people-centred care, which is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a good approach to the creation or reform of healthcare systems.

A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
Proverbs 17:22
