Healthcare programs
Over the next few weeks,
we’re telling the story of our throughcare programs
We believe in throughcare - that is, continuity of care for detained patients from the time of their arrest until their successful reintegration into the community.
Upon arrival
Initial medical assessments
Our caregivers regularly visit all police stations within our service.
We create an electronic medical record (EMR) for each recently arrived detainee.
We then perform an initial medical assessment (IMA), asking about their physical, mental and spiritual needs, documenting their observations and other particular findings.
The caregivers the liaise with our medical team about any patients whose medical history or findings give cause for concern.
Patients who require medication are either helped to obtain it from their homes or dispensed it from our supplies.
