Healthcare programs

Over the next few weeks,
we’re telling the story of our throughcare programs

We believe in throughcare - that is, continuity of care for detained patients from the time of their arrest until their successful reintegration into the community.

Upon arrival

Initial medical assessments

  • Our caregivers regularly visit all police stations within our service.

  • We create an electronic medical record (EMR) for each recently arrived detainee.

  • We then perform an initial medical assessment (IMA), asking about their physical, mental and spiritual needs, documenting their observations and other particular findings.

  • The caregivers the liaise with our medical team about any patients whose medical history or findings give cause for concern.

  • Patients who require medication are either helped to obtain it from their homes or dispensed it from our supplies.
