Window of opportunity

Plan

As Integritas Healthcare moves into the final phase of our 2023-2026 strategic plan, one of our objectives is to achieve a 100% increase on our 2023 web hits.

Most other areas of our plan have been going well. But it you consider web hits from within countries with excellent human rights records and exemplary offender healthcare systems, we are far away from achieving this particular target.

Interestingly though, if you consider just the countries that lie within the area known by some as the 10/40 Window, then we’ve already smashed it…

Window

More than 5.4 billion people live between latitudes 10 degrees N & 40 degrees N

For these countries, when compared with 2023, we experienced 100% and 428% growth in 2024 and 2025 respectively. If the rest of this year continues in the same vein as January to March, we could even top 650% growth!

Our 10/40 prediction

We treat patients of all faiths and none, so the fact that these countries are predominantly non-Christian is not a targeting factor for us.

Yet the plain fact of the matter is that the majority of 10/40 countries have extremely poor human rights records. Torture and ill-treatment abound. If available at all, offender healthcare is likely to be decidedly sub-par.

So we are immensely encouraged that so many 10/40 web users are accessing our site, particularly our opinion pieces and resource pages.

Closed?

We are especially excited to be getting massive numbers of hits from within countries that are closed (to a lesser or greater extent) to free speech. These web users have been especially drawn to our healthcare-focused critiques of specific tortures and ill-treatments.

One of our resources getting big hits!

The internet is such a fabulous vehicle for disseminating best practice, good practice, or even just basic acceptable practice within the field of offender healthcare. No way could we ever reach as many fellow healthcare professionals (HCPs) using face-to-face and paper methods.

This analysis shows the value of taking time - time to craft specialist web resources and to write opinion pieces.

We know from various ways and means that this area of our work has been very much appreciated by offender healthcare HCPs in relatively and even absolutely closed countries.

At our end, offering solidarity is empowering.

At both ends, sharing and swapping information is empowering.

At the other end, remembering (or even realising for the first time) that you aren’t the only secure environments HCP with a conscience is empowering.

And each of these power surges could transmit a small amount of benefit for a patient detained in extremely challenges conditions.

Our China prediction

Focusing on just one country: within the last two years, we’ve had a 7500% upswing in Chinese hits.

Being detained in China is no joke. We must do anything and everything that might help ethically minded offender healthcare HCPs working within this particular criminal justice system, and the detainees they care for.

If the rest of this year remains so positive, we’ll end 2026 with 13,000% Chinese growth during the lifetime of our strategic plan!

Opportunity

In the often dispiriting field of torture prevention, I am most encouraged by these statistics. We’re starting to draft our next strategic plan, to take us up to 2030. These figures suggest that we should placing web resourcing front and centre. What a window of opportunity!
