Job description

Your hours

  • Completely flexible

Your duties

  • Translating both client-focused and professionals-focused written materials from English into your specialist language

  • Occasionally translating material into English

Your expectations

  • Induction training

  • If you wish, credit on all published translations

  • Paid expenses

  • Supportive volunteering atmosphere

Your obligations

  • Consistently high quality of translation

  • Use of your own computer and secure internet

Your oversight

  • You will have a probationary three months.

  • You will serve in cooperation with all our staff.

  • You will be line managed by our chief medical officer.

Person specification

Experience, knowledge, qualifications & skills

  • Essential

    • fluent in both spoken and written English

    • fluent in a language useful to our work

  • Desirable

    • knowledge of English language healthcare and criminal justice terminology

    • we are particularly looking for Arabic, French, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian or Spanish translators

    • we are particularly looking for Tagalog +/- Cebuano translators

Health & safety

  • Essential

    • mentally fit enough to work on material pertaining to human rights and ill-treatment

  • Desirable

    • mentally fit enough to work on material pertaining to torture

Personal attributes

  • Essential

    • autonomous worker who takes initiative

    • confidential

    • professional approach to working life

    • sympathy with our aims & values including our Christian faith-inspired ethos

 Availability

  • Essential

    • available for at least a year

    • residing within a country with a non-hostile attitude to Christianity and human rights, and a secure internet service

  • Desirable

    • available indefinitely
