External courses
We have several types of courses and are also open to creating new ones. Please get in touch if you think we can help you with your training needs.
First Aid
Our training room is well stocked with adult, child and infant resuscitation mannikins. Over the last decade we have provided free first aid training to Filipinos who interact with our three client groups - detainees, ex-detainees and their dependents.
Courses always include basic life support (BLS) and we tailor the other skills to the students we are teaching. For example, it’s important that the carers of detainees’ children can manage choking and fever. We also give BLS training to our OJT students.
Health & Justice Track
This online course is for healthcare professionals interested in caring for vulnerable patient groups. It guides self-exploration of the health and justice interface including career options.
Created and run for CMF members during the first two years of the pandemic, we are considering converting it into an in-house program.
Jailcraft
To those unfamiliar with them, places of detention operate according to strange cultural precepts and puzzling sets of rules. There are also many potential dangers, both overt and hidden.
Many people are drawn to the idea of volunteering or working behind bars, yet are naive of these dangers and pitfalls. We provide bespoke training in how to function behind bars as safely as possible.
Medics & Justice
This hybrid student-selected course (SSC) is for student healthcare professionals. It explores the interface between medicine and achieving justice for vulnerable patient groups.
Created and run for the University of Leeds from 2012 until 2020 when the pandemic took hold.
We are now negotiating its relaunch with other UK medical schools.
Safeguarding
In many parts of the world, the concept of safeguarding is completely alien to the criminal justice system.
We provide free training, introducing diverse groups to the principles of safeguarding and then tailor those principles to the real world inhabited by our clients.
Speaking Truth to Power
This practical day course is for healthcare professionals interested in learning how to advocate in the public square for vulnerable patient groups.
Created and run for CMF members before the pandemic, it was adapted to run in hybrid fashion as part of the Health & Justice Track. We are considering how best to use it in this post-pandemic era.
…let the wise listen and add to their learning,
and let the discerning get guidance…
