Introduction
Only a handful of United Nations member states are not yet party to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. Yet charities supporting victims continue to report torture all over the globe. And its common depiction in films suggests that it is often regarded as a fact of life. So why is this? Why do some people, cultures and societies use torture and ill-treatment, whilst others do not?
Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.
