Compulsory costs
Due to us
Processing fee:
£25
to be paid to our UK bank when you apply
Supervision fee:
£100 per (part or full) week onsite
to be paid to our UK bank at least one month before your start date
Full board accommodation fee:
P2500/night
to be paid in Pesos, in cash or into our Philippine bank, by your arrival
For logistical and personal safety reasons, we insist that you reside onsite at our base. It is also significantly cheaper than staying in local hostels/hotels and eating out.
We don’t charge for nights you know in advance that you will not be onsite
(eg long weekends or a week elsewhere) but we never issue refunds.
Due to others - fixed costs
Visa:
P3,030 (~£42)
to be paid in cash at Olongapo’s visa office if staying more than 30 days
Due to others - variable costs
Health & travel insurance:
~ £50 (typical for a healthy person not intending to dive)
This varies a lot depending upon your overall health, anticipated activities and level of benefits.
Your insurance must include hospitalisation costs and repatriation to your home country.
And if you are going to do any high risk activities such as SCUBA diving, you need to ensure that the policy will cover evacuation and hyperbaric chamber treatment in the event of a case of decompression sickness.
International flights:
~ £700 (typical for optimal UK-Philippines return flights)
Convenient carriers include Emirates or Qatar Airways (with short transit stops in Dubai or Doha respectively) flying to Clark (Angeles), which is the nearest airport to our base in the City of Olongapo.
Cheaper options include flying into Manila Airport, choosing longer transit stops, and/or flying with airlines transitting through China or Singapore.
Public transport (bus & trike):
~£10 return travel between airport and our base
~£15 (varies depending upon length of placement and numbers sharing trikes)
Safeguarding check:
~ £0 (typical for UK university students)
Many universities will cover the charge of a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check in the UK or the equivalent in other home countries.
Vaccinations & any other preventative health measures:
~£150 would be typical in the UK.
This cost varies enormously.
